Whether polls are for Assembly, Lok Sabha or a housing society, all must vote

Kunal Vyas Agarwal, a resident of GC Grand, a society in Indirapuram, flew from Mumbai to cast her vote in AoA polls on Sunday. Kudos!

Whether polls are for Assembly, Lok Sabha or a housing society, all must vote

At a time when many residents steer clear of society elections, Kuntal Vyas Agarwal, a resident of GC Grand, a society in Indirapuram, came all the way from Mumbai to cast her vote in the society polls. She dropped a business appointment in Mumbai to exercise her franchise in association elections that are seeing a drop in the number of votes cast.

Agarwal, an interior designer by profession, told City Spidey that although she was to stay in Mumbai for few more days, she took the last flight out of Mumbai last night and arrived in time to participate in the society elections on Sunday.

“If one does not play the role during the election, he/she loses the right to complain in case of any disagreement with the elected people. In whatever the scale, be it large government body elections or small society elections, everyone must participate,” she said.

Although she has not been part of any AOA body till date, she says that she and Nikhil Agarwal, her husband, are actively involved in society affairs for the welfare of the residents.

However, GC Grand with its two teams (unofficial) of nominees namely, Maitree Bandhan and Happy Homes, has been alive since the last few days with the buzz of elections with team members and supporters distributing pamphlets, highlighting their agendas in order to woo the voters. Alok Kumar, patron of FedAOA, who had played a major role in implementing UP Apartment Act, 2010, and forming AOAs in societies, said the election was conducted in the real sense of the term.

Alok Kumar, who was also overseeing the election process, told City Spidey that unlike most other societies, the election at GC Grand saw a turnover of over 70 per cent voters with 176 votes being cast against the total 246 votes. “It was great to see people drop in from places such as Meerut for the election, while Kuntal was the best example of participation in in-society governance,” Kumar said.

The newly elected body of GC Grand AOA includes Amrish Garg, Ajay Sood, AK Somani, Anchal Trehan, Rahul Jain, Balraj Kapoor, Vaibhav Garg, Ashok Munjial, Hari Om Rastogi and Vinod Kumar Pandey, many of whom have been members of the previous AOAs.
