If Noida traffic police is to be believed, all intersections in the city will soon be under CCTV surveillance. According to a senior official with the traffic police, a plan in this regard has been prepared and the file has been sent for approval.

However, the department has not fixed any deadline for the implementation of this project. Layak Singh, traffic inspector of Noida, told City Spidey, “We have been given 122 CCTV cameras by UP police. We are in the process of hiring a private company to instal these cameras at different locations. We are also identifying locations where the cameras are needed urgently.”

He also said that CCTV cameras are a big deterrent to crime and they work as a third eye in helping the police in checking anti-social activities in the city. “We are also planning to run a campaign with the help of social media and other modes of communication to raise awareness so that residents also instal CCTV cameras outside their houses,” he added.

Meanwhile, residents are looking forward to the development. SK Singh, a resident of Sector 34, said, “These cameras will help Noida police identify miscreants. It will also decrease the percentage of crimes on the road and people will feel safe while walking on roads.”

Sujata Verma, a resident of Grand Ajnara Heritage, Sector 74, told City Spidey that CCTV cameras were important for developing sectors such as sectors 74, 75, 76, 78, 120 and 121. “In these areas, women do not feel safe to move on the roads after dark. If cameras are installed in these areas, they will certainly act as a deterrent against crimes such as chain snatching,” she added.
