Gurgaon, Sector 27: A community centre that's not for the residents The community centre of Sector 27

The RWA of Sector 27, Gurgaon, is struggling to gain control over the community centre. Though built for the residents, HUDA is unwilling to transfer its operations to the RWA.

The residents of the sector, which falls under HUDA's jurisdiction, are disappointed with the state of affairs. The centre is available for functions and weddings, but the bookings are to be done through HUDA officials.

The centre remains locked most of the times, and opens only when there’s a function to be held. The centre is not well maintained either.

“It always remains locked. Only before parties and marriages do I see some cleaning happening,” said Rahul Choudhary, a tenant living in the sector.

Moreover, the residents of the sector do not get any preference for bookings. “While we have the facility, we have no assurance of its availability. And as you know, holding functions outside is so expensive,” said HK Dang, a resident.

“We want the RWA to take control, so we can arrange recreational facilities for our residents at the centre. It’s a community centre, after all!” said Yogendra Bhatti, RWA president.

On contacting HUDA administrator Yashpal Yadav, he said, “Following the process, we’ll transfer the centre to Municipal Corporation of Gurugram [MCG]. They will then take a call on whether or not to hand over the centre to the RWA.”
