Relief for residents as Gurgaon police busts gang of burglars

Residents of Gurgaon can now heave a sigh of relief as the city’s police arrested four burglars after setting a trap. The burglars are 21 to 25 years of age, and have been involved in several incidents in different areas of the city.

The gang was active since the beginning of the year and all the four men are from Uttar Pradesh. They used to recce an area during the day and would target it the same night. They distributed the stolen items equally amongst themselves.

Speaking to City Spidey, Sandeep Kumar, sub-inspector, Gurgaon police, said, “They never returned empty handed from Gurgaon. The tools they used to break houses have been recovered from their rented rooms. They mostly targeted houses that were locked. Once, they even stole Rs 50,000 from a house where the owner was asleep. Recently, their attempt at Sukhrali had failed when they could not break open the lock. On days when they could not lay their hands on anything, they would get away with tyres from cars.”

The police have seized about Rs 40,000 in cash, 105 mobile phones and various other items such as home theatre systems, LED TVs, computers and even gas cylinders.

They had committed burglaries in areas such as Palam Vihar, Sector 18, Sector 56, Sector 5 and Sector 10. Residents had been in a state of panic and the RWAs had been constantly approaching the police regarding the gang.

“There were quite a few thefts that happened in Sector 56. With their arrest, residents will have greater hopes that the police department will nab other miscreants too,” said Sudhir Bhardwaj, president Sector 56 RWA.
