With the northern Indian monsoons knocking at the door, Green Team, a residents’ group in Indirapuram, is picking up pace in its efforts to enhance the green cover of the Ghaziabad township.

Members of the team on June 19 conducted a survey of the various locations where new plants can be planted, and also marked spots that needed to be cleaned and prepared for planting. The members, mostly residents from various societies of Ahinsa Khand II, went to various societies to garner support from their managements.

Speaking to City Spidey, Jayati Jain, a member of the group and a resident of Rishabh Cloud 9, said that during the survey, they found various spots where new plants can be planted. “The spots include central verges of roads, the space along boundary walls of societies, premises of Indirapuram Primary school and along the Hindon-Pusta road,” Jain said.

The upcoming plantation drive of Ghaziabad Development Authority, which is set to be held from July 9, has also come as great news for Green Team members. The Authority plans to distribute thousands of plants free of cost during the drive.

Speaking to City Spidey, Pramod Kumar, another member of Green Team and a resident of Desire Residency, said that they (members of Green Team) had planted several plants earlier this year that they had to water themselves. “We had to carry water from our societies on trolleys but now with the rains, the plants will be watered automatically,” Kumar said.

Kumar added that most societies of Ahinsa Khand II had already agreed to participate and provide their gardeners for planting and maintaining trees.

Meanwhile, members of the group have also planned to meet officials of the horticulture department, GDA, to arrange for plants.
