Acute shortage of traffic personnel forces police to seek help of residents as officials say they have received an overwhelming response.
Noida traffic police has roped in residents as volunteers to manage traffic in the city. Last week, the traffic police asked Noida residents to help them manage traffic in their respective residential areas.
Layak Singh, traffic inspector of Noida, told City Spidey, “We received an overwhelming response from residents in one week. Most of the volunteers are youngsters and it’s good that young blood is coming forward to help us.”
“We are training them on road safety rules and the volunteers will manage traffic at intersections, markets and roads,” he said.
He added that volunteers have been given reflector jackets for safety and identification. The volunteers perform their duty during peak hours, when the city faces high volume of traffic.
The reason behind seeking help from residents is acute shortage of traffic personnel in Gautam Budh Nagar. According to senior police officials, there are only two traffic inspectors, two traffic sub-inspectors, 38 head constables and 113 constables in the district.
Residents say that as the traffic police personnel are not present at all major locations, volunteers can help control traffic during peak hours.
