Gurgaon: Zone-wise plan to rid the city of pigs

Following a report on June 16 by City Spidey, MCG has taken prompt action on the number of stray pigs in the city. Here’s what you need to do to get rid of pigs in your area.

Gurgaon: Zone-wise plan to rid the city of pigs

After repeated complaints from residents across Gurgaon, Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) initiated a drive today to get rid of stray pigs.

The city has been divided into four zones, with a separate contractor allocated to each zone.

Six days back, City Spidey had taken up the matter with MCG after residents of Suncity Township in Sector 54 complained about stray pigs. MCG had, at the point, assured prompt action.

The pigs caught will be sent outside Gurgaon.  Municipal joint commissioner (headquarters), YS Gupta, said, “The teams will catch the pigs and transport them out of Gurgaon in a humane manner. If there’s any mishap during the process, the contractor will be taken to the dock. MCG will not have any responsibility.”

MCG has also asked the contractors to submit a weekly report on the number of pigs caught in their zones every Friday. The contractors will strictly work in their respective zones. However, the contractor who catches the most number of pigs will be allowed to pick a zone for the next two months.

VMK Singh, general secretary, Suncity Township, said, “We are happy that we have direct numbers of the contractors now. I hope we can rid our society of pigs — they have just become too many.”

MCG spokesperson SS Rohilla said, “After several complaints, we began the drive today. Residents can now call on the numbers given to them.”

Speaking to City Spidey, Om Prakash, Zone 3 contractor, said, “Since morning I have received about 30 calls from residents. I have applied for a police permit, so we can start work immediately.”
