Flyover at Barapullah flyover to miss May 2018 deadline too

Once again, commuters wanting speedier passage from Mayur Vihar to South Delhi via Barapullah flyover near Mayur Vihar Phase 1, will have to wait for more time as work on the flyover across Yamuna has been held up. The project is feared to miss the May 2018 deadline too just like the previous deadline too.

The project delay is due to the failure to acquire the land necessary for project as individual farmers were not targeted with a proper procedure and policy.

Already, several pillars have been constructed on Mayur Vihar side, but Public Works Department (PWD) is still scouting for land to set up pillars on the Yamuna floodplain area. Eight acres of land falling under Yamuna floodplain area on Mayur Vihar side

Several pillars in Mayur Vihar side have been constructed and Public Works Department (PWD) requires land to setup pillar on Yamuna floodplain area. Land here belongs to individual farmers. The Delhi government is yet to put in place a proper procedure to acquire land under the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Settlement Act.

Manoj Trivedi, a project engineer (PWD) said that around 40 per cent of the project has been completed so far. “For constructing a bridge over the Yamuna, we require space to construct as many as 12 pillars for its foundation. Though, construction work is still on at Mayur Vihar, we cannot start work on Yamuna side until the government gives us permission.”

Several rounds of meetings between state government and the farmers failed to yield results, as the farmers were not happy with the compensation offered.

As reported by City Spidey earlier, the Barapullah flyover will be connected with the existing flyover on Noida- Delhi link road near Mayur Vihar Pahse 1 Metro station.
