Noida's traffic police has ordered e-rickshaw drivers to register their vehicles with the Regional Transport Office (RTO). The traffic department has also asked drivers to ply on the routes finalised by the RTO.

Layak Singh, traffic inspector, Noida, told City Spidey that all e-rickshaw drivers were being reminded to register their vehicles and apply for driving licences on a regular basis.

"We have given them 20 days to register their vehicles," added Singh. "If they will fail to comply, the unregistered e-rickshaws will be seized.”

The city's traffic police, in a meeting on June 14 that involved District Magistrate BN Singh, had announced that none of the illegal e-rickshaws would be allowed to run on Noida's roads.

“There are about 1,500 e-rickshaws plying on Noida roads, of which only 400 have been registered with the transport department,” said a Noida transport department official.

Anup Kumar, an e-rickshaw driver, told City Spidey that many drivers were unable to register their vehicles for lack of documents such as sales tax certificates and insurance.
