Politicians are quick to take credit for anything that they may or may not have done, but will sure pass the buck if cornered with some searching questions.

East Delhi MP and BJP leader Mahesh Giri is no different to this trait shown by many a politician. Residents were pleasantly surprised when posters sprung up in a local DDA park, where a gym had come up. The posters proclaimed that the gym in the park was the result of tireless work of the MP and few other local BJP leaders.

Sharad Sharma, a resident of Upkar Apartments in Mayur Vihar I Extension, questioned the East Delhi MP as to why the gym equipment was not properly installed. As per the posters that sprung up, Giri and few other BJP workers had got 14 equipment installed at the open gym in the DDA park located in the neighbourhood.

A beaming face of Giri peered out of the posters that read that the gym equipment was installed by him. When Sharma sent a few pointed questions on Giri’s Facebook about the gym — whether he consulted local residents before getting the equipment, what was the process of purchasing the equipment, under what scheme was the gym installed, and how much public money was spent on it and the like. He also wanted to know who would maintain the equipment.

The East Delhi MP replied that the gym was installed by DDA and that any questions should be directed at that body.

Sharma told City Spidey, “If the gym was installed by DDA as Giri says, what about the poster?” It conveys the impression that the work was carried out by the East Delhi MP.

Sharma claims that he suggested Giri write the letter to DDA as he was the representative of East Delhi in Parliament.

Sharma lamented that the politicians were not willing to answer questions but were quick to claim credit for work done by someone else. He appealed to residents of housing societies to raise their voice against this trait of politicians.

“We are tax payers and we have a right to question where our hard earned money is being spent,” he said urging the youth to come forward to take up this issue.
