Having lost all patience, buyers of housing projects by Amrapali Group staged a protest outside the realtor’s corporate office in Sector 62, Noida, today.
More than 500 buyers from across Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar took part in the protests over delayed possession of homes.
Buyers took out a rally, raising slogans against Anil Sharma, chairman and managing director of Amrapali Group, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, local MP Dr Mahesh Sharma and Noida MLA Pankaj Singh.
Abhishek Kumar, president of Noida Extension Flat Owners’ Association, a group of buyers from housing projects in Noida and Greater Noida, said, “We have taken to the roads, as the developer has failed to keep promises made to us. All his promises about handover were lies! We have been forced to launch this massive protest.”
The developer might have gotten a whiff of the protest, as all the three offices in the sector seemed closed for the day. The owners and his employees were not present in office at the time of the protests. This angered the protesters even further.
Shweta Singh, general secretary of the buyers’ group, said, “We had come here to urge the developer to start construction, but neither the developer, nor his employees were present. The developer is hiding from us!”
Buyers had also gotten along an MoU, so it could be co-signed by the developer, but could not be done as the offices were shut. It said that if the company failed to restart construction at all the project sites, buyers would be compelled to take up the issue with the police. They would be forced to lodge a complaint of forgery against all the five directors of Amrapali Group, the MoU further stated.
Buyers wanted to lodge an FIR against the builder and his associates on the spot. But the police deployed at the venue pleaded helplessness, as a case could only be registered in the civil court. This further stoked the anger of buyers, who then decided to block the roads.
Meanwhile, senior police officers and the city magistrate reached the spot and requested the buyers to end the protest. They assured them that an FIR of forgery would be registered once four buyers submitted written complaints with the police.
Buyers will submit a written complaint with the city police tomorrow. Kumar said that a copy of the complaint would also be submitted to the city magistrate.
