On Tuesday, the Gautam Budh Nagar administration announced that so far there had been 86 cases of malaria and 18 cases of swine flu in the district. Incidentally there had been no case of dengue.

Last week the toll of malaria patients had hovered around 65. On the other hand, there were 10 cases of swine flu. The official announcement confirmed that this week the number of both these diseases had increased. The blood samples of patients with malaria or swine flu had been tested by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in Delhi.

Dr Anurag Bhargav, chief medical officer (CMO) of Gautam Budh Nagar, informed City Spidey that on Monday evening alone, lab investigations confirmed eight cases of swine flu and 15 cases of malaria.

In his words, “More than 60 per cent of our patients are suffering from these two diseases. We have created isolated wards for swine flu and malaria patients in the district hospital and in the super-speciality child hospital with 10 and 20 beds respectively. Private hospitals have also been asked to create isolated wards for patients.”

Bhargava added that till date, out of 6,000 blood samples tested for malaria, 86 were positive. “We also tested 61 samples for swine flu and out of these, 18 tested positive,” he adds.

The CMO office also confirmed that 30 blood samples were tested for dengue, but none turned out to be positive.

"We have issued instructions to all government and private schools, hospitals, government offices and district hospitals, along with Noida Authority and RWAs, to clear out stagnant water,” Bhargava said.

The CMO added that the department had been running a monthlong campaign to spread awareness against mosquito breeding. People have been urged not to allow water to stagnate in empty vessels, coolers, pots or vases. “We have also asked Noida Authority to fumigate the city, especially around parks and drains,” Bhargava concluded.
