Non-functional street lights in the stretch running along plot no C-58/1 to plot no C-58/11 in a service lane in  Sector 62, Noida, have become a cause for concern for residents of Mecon Apartments in the sector.

The lane lies just outside the society and residents avoid using it at night as it is engulfed in darkness. The lights have not been working for the last one month. Reema Sharma, a resident of Mecon Apartments,  said, “My office is situated in Sector 2 and I return from work at about 8 pm. Because of complete darkness in the service lane, I have to take a different route, which adds an extra 100 metres to my commute.”

Shruti Singh, another resident of the apartment, said, “Due to non-functional street lights in the service lane, children and women of the society avoid using this route.”

PR Chandana, secretary of Mecon Apartments RWA, said, “We have filed several complaints regarding this with the Noida Authority through their ‘Noida Citizen Charter’ mobile app but no action has been taken by the Noida Authority. The service lane remains dark at night and there is constant fear of unscrupulous elements lurking in the dark.”

When City Spidey took up the issue with RP Singh, project engineer, he assured that the problem would be solved in the next two days. He said, “The electrical wire connection to the street lights is damaged and will be replaced soon.”
