Noida Authority has a solution for pumps that don't pump out water

To beat power cuts, Authority officials are planning to set up generators near the underpasses on the Noida-Greater Noida expressway and in other low-lying areas of the city.

Why are pumps deployed near waterlogged areas taking so long to flush out excess water? In the words of Noida Authority officials, “with frequent power cuts, the pumps can’t be utilised optimally”.

The problem is particularly bad in low-lying areas of the city and at underpasses. The pumps stop working as soon as the power goes off — and power cuts become more frequent during the rains.

RK Mishra, additional CEO of Noida Authority, told City Spidey, “The situation is bad this year. Even last year, commuters did not face waterlogging to this extent — power cuts were also not as frequent.”

Underpasses at the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway are the worst affected — commuters have to plough through knee-deep water.

The way out?

Noida Authority officials are planning to set up generators near the pumps. “We are going to instal generators near the underpasses on the expressway and in other low-lying areas of the city,” confirmed an official from the Authority.
