Protests force builder to pay electricity dues; power restored to two societies

There is some good news for residents of Amrapali Silicon and Amrapali Princely Estate in Sector 76, Noida. Power is now restored to these two residential complexes after the power corporation received money that the builder owed it.

The UPPCL (Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd) commenced supply of power to these two complexes from Saturday midnight.

According to a resident of Amrapali Silicon, Neera Mishra, UPPCL started power supply after the private builder removed the security guards posted in the society. He said that an official of the builder had demanded money from residents.

Some residents of the society decided not to pay maintenance charges to the builder, as he failed to provide all facilities that were promised. The lifts don’t function and the area is not lit up enough, Mishra said.

After a standoff with the builder for his failure to provide amenities as promised by him before selling the flats in these residential complexes, the residents started a campaign to demand intervention of Noida authorities to force the builder to fulfil is promises.

A tripartite meeting was convened by the Noida authorities, where residents asked the civic body to force the builder to perform.

JK Gupta, Chief Executive Engineer, UPPCL told City Spidey that “the developer had submitted cheques worth Rs 1 crore each for Silicon and Princely Estate. He has also deposited the electricity bill for this month, around Rs 50,000.” The power has been switched on after the builder promised to clear the dues within 15 days, Gupta said.
