Municipal Corporation sets up task forces for each zone to monitor sanitation

South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has reconstituted a task force for each zone to streamline sanitation work in the area.

A decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting of officials, chaired by Mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat and Commissioner Puneet Kumar Goel.

According to SDMC, the task force will contribute in improving SDMC's ranking in swachhata sarvekshan. SDMC mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat said, "There is a dire need of taking serious efforts to bring improvement in sanitation works. This concept of task force would help in improvement of sanitation. The task forces would be deployed in every zone under SDMC."

According to Sehrawat, the concerned additional commissioner will chair the task force, whereas zonal deputy commissioner, senior assistant commissioners and responsible officers of the DEMS and sanitation wing will function as its members.

"The task force will conduct surprise inspections of ongoing sanitation work and will keep an eye on the proper utilisation of resources. They will also ensure that sanitation workers, along with their supervisors work with full dedication,” Sehrawat said.

On other initiatives to improve sanitation, the mayor informed that monitoring groups comprising residents and officials are also being formed to make the community participate in making the area clean.

"RWAs, market associations and the areas' sanitary staff would be there in the group. It would not only make the system strong and effective but also create a bond in community," said Sehrawat.
