The buzz in Noida, Greater Noida and Gurgaon

Here are City Spidey's top four picks from the National Capital Region (NCR):

Noida & Greater Noida

Rush for registry of flats: Even as ambiguity prevails over the cutoff date over the 2 per cent hike in stamp duty, the registry offices at Noida Sector 33 and Greater Noida's Sector Gamma II witness a stream of homebuyers seeking registration of flats. The rush for registration is being attributed to misgivings among homebuyers over the imminent increase in stamp duty.

Amity invents biodegradable plastic: Amity University has developed a technology to make biodegradable plastic decomposable within 60 days. It has filed a patent for the environment-friendly plastic and signed an MoU with an American MNC to commercialise it globally. The breakthrough is significant in view of the ban on manufacturing, sale and distribution of polythene bags in Uttar Pradesh.

Dogs, owners walk for animal wellbeing: Dogs and their owners from Noida thronged Lodhi Gardens in large numbers to take part in a walkathon on Sunday. The event was organised by Society for Prevention of Cruelty Against Animals (SPCA), Noida, to raise funds for the upkeep of the animal shelter in Noida. Buoyed by the success of the event, the organisers have decided to make it a fortnightly affair.

Gurgaon

CNG becomes cheaper: Compressed natural gas (CNG) will be cheaper by 75 paise from today in Gurgaon. Haryana City Gas Distribution Limited (HCG) has taken the decision to reduce the prices of CNG from Rs 42.6 to Rs 41.85 a kilo, following the reduction in prices of natural gas by the central government. The price of piped natural gas (PNG), too, is expected to be reduced soon.
