Residents of Vasundhara Enclave have dug a pit to channelise rainwater from a flood-prone road to seven water harvesting systems.
Until last year, a T-point zone opposite a few housing societies in Vasundhara Enclave resembled a flooded stream during the monsoons. Just 10 minutes of rain was enough for this road to clog up. However, this year the situation is different, as residents have installed seven rainwater harvesting systems around the societies, which has solved the waterlogging problem and is, at the same time, helping recharge groundwater.
Though, these water harvesting systems were installed by the Delhi government, the residents were clearly instrumental in ensuring their utility.
BS Rawat, a resident of Delux Apartments, said, “The T-point area used to be a flood zone. We wanted a proper solution to the waterlogging problem, and then we came up with the idea of setting up water harvesting systems in the areas just below the flood-prone road. We are thankful to our local MLA, who has set up these water harvesting systems under the local area development fund.”
“We have dug a 100-m-deep pit on the roadside, where rainwater used to collect, and inserted a 5-inch pipe. This has become a route through which stagnant water clears out,” Rawat elaborated.
