DDA relaxes norms to attract buyers for its housing scheme

Poor response to the DDA housing scheme of 2017, launched on June 30, has prompted a few changes to make the scheme more attractive to prospective buyers.

DDA officials met (L-T) Governor Anil Baijal yesterday, and the decision was taken unanimously.

The last date for application has been extended by a month to September 11. DDA has also provided respite on surrender charges. Now, there’ll be no deductions on the registration charges if the flat is surrendered within 15 days of the draw. Earlier, this was 25 per cent of the registration money. Surrender charges would be 10% between 15-30 days. After that, the charges are hiked to 50 per cent, and after 91 days, the whole registration amount is to be deducted.

The banks, which had hitherto been unresponsive, are now working to make the application process more convenient for buyers.

According to the DDA, about 8,000 forms have been received so far for 12,000 flats. So far, about 70 per cent of the forms have been registered online.

Principal commissioner, DDA Housing, JP Agrawal, said, “The changes have been made to provide some respite to the people. “We made modifications in surrender charge and extended the last date for registration so that more people could apply. Banks too will, hopefully, take more interest now in financing buyers for the scheme.”

Under the scheme, 12,072 flats in different categories and different locations have been offered on a freehold basis. There are 87 high-income group (HIG) flats, 11,197 low-income group (LIG) flats and 404 middle-income group (MIG) flats. There are 384 Janta flats as well, priced tentatively between Rs 7.07 lakh and Rs 12.76 lakh.

According to sources, maximum forms have been received for HIG and MIG flats.

Registration Charges:

For MIG and HIG flats — Rs 2,00,000

For Janta and LIG flats — Rs 1,00,000

Modified Surrender Charges:
