A 27-year-old software engineer allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her rented house in Shakti Kunj, a residential society in Sector 62, Noida, on Wednesday night. The woman, identified as Shweta, hails from Patna, Bihar.

Anil Pratap Singh, station officer of the Sector 58 police station, told City Spidey that her roommates were not home when the incident took place. When they returned home from work, they found the flat locked from inside. “After getting no response, despite knocking on the door several times, they called the police. We broke open the door to find Shweta hanging from the ceiling fan,” he added. A suicide note has also been recovered.
The suicide note says Shweta was taking this extreme step after being cheated by her lover, Ankush Gandotra, who was working with her in the same private company. The note further says that Shweta and Ankush were having an affair for the past two years and she was pregnant but Ankush refused to marry her.
The police have informed the parents of the woman about the incident, who came to Noida. The body was handed over to them. Her parents have lodged a case against Gandotra and his parents under sections 306, 313 and 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Sector 58 police station.
Ankush Gandotra was arrested from his office in Sector 62 around 6 pm. He will be presented in court on August 11.
