Ghaziabad administration shuts all educational institutions in city on Monday

The Ghaziabad administration on Sunday ordered that all educational institutions in the city remain closed on Monday. The decision has been taken in the wake of the Panchkula violence unleashed by supporters of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, convicted of raping an inmate of his ashram, that had also singed parts of Ghaziabad last Friday.

Tomorrow, the CBI judge is to pronounce the quantum of punishment to the convict at Rohtak jail. In view of this, security has been tightened all over Haryana, neighbouring Delhi and NCR regions, including Ghaziabad.

Ghaziabad district magistrate S Ministhy issued an order to all educational institutions, including all government and private-run institutions such as schools, inter colleges, degree colleges and technical institutes.

This is the second time in the past few days when educational institutions have been asked to remain closed. The schools were also ordered to remain closed on August 25, following the widespread violence in areas of Haryana and Punjab after Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted of rape.

In fact, government schools and colleges in Gurgaon will also remain closed tomorrow. Most private schools, such as Heritage, Shri Ram, DPS, St Xavier's and Scottish High have declared tomorrow a holiday for students.

A few parents whom City Spidey spoke to said, “The district administration has taken the right decision to keep schools closed, as the situation has not stabilised yet and can worsen after the quantum of sentence is handed out on Monday."

“I am happy that the school is closed, as it's an uncertain situation and young kids have to be kept safe," said a parent of a child studying in Delhi Public School.

School authorities, too, have responded positively to the government decision.
