The Morning Walkers’ Club of Sector 7 has been demanding lights for the roads they frequent. The area behind societies such as Brahma Apartments, Kamal Vihar, Young Aheria CGHS, Harsukh Apartments and Shri Niketan get dark after sundown, spelling fear for the residents.
Members of the club, who take walks in the evening as well, feel threatened in the absence of lights. A senior member of the club, LD Garg, also a resident of Rashi Apartments, said, “We have mentioned this issue to the civic bodies as well as area representatives, but nothing has been done yet. We don’t feel safe walking in the evening. We all are senior citizens and find it difficult to walk in the dark.”
This is how dark it gets after sundown
There’s no source light in the surrounding areas as well. The few lights that are there in the nearby societies get hidden behind trees.
“This is absolute negligence on the part of the civic bodies. We avoid walking alone in the evenings. There are a few bulbs, but the light is too dim, and often shadowed by trees. We want the whole stretch to be illuminated properly,” said Ravi Jaitely, a resident of Harsukh Apartments, and general secretary of Senior Citizens Association.
