Why residents are wary of MCG elections?

While the MCG is gearing up for elections, residents from various private colonies — even the new ones — are not too keen to cast their votes.

The reason?

Most issues faced by residents remain unresolved, leading to high levels of frustration. The takeover of colonies by MCG was announced in 2016, but the process has been inordinately delayed. Till now, only the water facilities for Sushant Lok I have been taken over.

There are other badly affected areas, including DLF phases, Suncity, South City and Ardee City.

Vikas Ranjan from Tulip Orange lashed out, “We are promised various services during elections. But the elected representatives do nothing to help us after the polls are over. We have no proper roads or security, and despite several reminders, no action was taken to help us. Why should we cast our votes?”

VMK Singh, Suncity RWA general secretary, agreed. He added, “We have been paying our taxes on time, but haven’t been given even the basic facilities. The builder has washed his hands off any responsibility. We are now wary of casting our votes for the MCG elections.”

Even in Sushant Lok I, where water is supplied under the MCG, the residents are sceptical.

“We have been facing issues with water supply for years now. Let's see what difference the MCG is able to make to our sector. Our situation is not any better right now,” said Rajib Bhatia, a resident of Sushant Lok I.
