DM, GB Nagar: Fine school buses overshooting the speed of 40 km/hr

To enforce strict adherence to CBSE guidelines, the district magistrate (DM) of Gautam Buddh Nagar has ordered the transport department of the district to issues challans to school buses overshooting the speed barrier of 40 km per hour.

This was decided in a meeting held this week.

As per CBSE guidelines, school buses' speed should not be more than the 40 km per hour, but drivers across the city are seen flouting this norm quite openly.

H Tiwari, assistant return transport officer (ARTO) of Gautam Buddh Nagar, told City Spidey, “The DM has set also a September 30 deadline for all schools to comply with safety measures in accordance with guidelines issued by the Supreme Court and the CBSE. We will start the inspection of schools from October.”

"According to the apex court’s guidelines, buses should also have fire extinguishers, a first-aid kit and a female attendant. Contact number of the driver, the conductor and the female attendant must be mentioned clearly on the bus,” he added.

The transport department is to soon start a training session with school bus drivers and conductors to enforce better compliance.
