Noida: MLA unveils e-hygiene programme for 70 government schools The MLA and other dignitaries at the inaugural event

Aimed at improving hygiene standards of government schools, MLA Pankaj Singh today unveiled a three year programme on e-hygiene. Singh was the Chief Guest at the inaugural event organised at Indira Gandhi Kala Kendra in Noida Sector 6.

To be initially implemented across 70 primary schools in the district, the e-hygiene programme will aim at transforming the existing mindsets of school students.

This programme is essentially the initiative of Dettol and Harpic, two of India’s leading private corporations. Under the ongoing ‘Banega Swachh India’ campaign, these companies shall provide hygiene related training to all the children studying in the 70 schools. Children shall also be given cleaning kits, hand washes and soaps.

The companies have devised a total of 45 sessions for sensitising children with respect to hand hygiene. Each year, students will also attend 15 awareness sessions.

Singh lauded the potential of this initiative. In his words, “To an extent, children of private schools maintain cleanliness because the basic facilities are in place. However, the same facilities are not available for students of government schools. This move shall certainly help them to improve their hygienic standards especially because along with training they will also get cleaning soaps and hand washes.”

B N Singh, District Magistrate, G B Nagar, said that the programme should cover all the 600 schools in the district. He said, “I will negotiate with other private companies operating in the district to sponsor the cost of implementing the e-hygiene programme in all 600 schools.”
