Residents root for a greener Gurgaon

Amidst the massive infrastructural boom that is going on in Gurgaon, residents are actively embarking on initiatives to extend the green cover of the area. Environmentally conscious people are proactively planting saplings to balance out the massive tree felling drives that are callously being undertaken by construction firms.

Mahesh Dayma, a local MLA has been spearheading an initiative to plant trees. Recently he distributed a thousand plants to people from various residential societies across Sector 56 and Sector 57. As many as 20 societies were included. Further, in the course of a four-day drive, Dayma had gifted almost 400 plants to morning walkers outside the Botanical Garden.

“Today, with so much construction happening in the city, there is a dire need for planting trees and other plants. For inhaling fresh air tomorrow we have to take the necessary steps today,” said Dayma, a resident of Sector 55.

The idea of gifting plants culminated in the inception of a nursery. This nursery houses various plants and shrubs that are regularly distributed to people.

“We have started regular plantation drives in our colony. Our society has identified various stretches on the Golf Course Road for planting trees,” said Mahavir Yadav, a resident of Kendriya Vihar.
