Durga Puja fervour in Dwarka

Preparations for Durga Puja are on in full swing at Dwarka. Different social organisations are lending their signature touch to the preparations. While the craftsmen are putting their final strokes on the idols of the Mother Goddess, ornate pandals are mushrooming across the sub-city.

The various organisations of the Bengali community of the sub-city like Bangiya Samaj, Aaikotan, Deepanwita and Aagomoni are organising grand celebrations within their open community grounds. At the same time large scale celebrations are also being organised inside the premises of Dakshinayan Society in Sector 4.

According to the organisers the celebrations would start from Panchami (25th September) with Aagomoni, a welcome ritual for the Mother Goddess, followed by Anandomela on Shashthi (26th September). Many artists from Kolkata, Mumbai and Delhi shall be performing in the cultural events from Shashthi onwards.

Societies are now busy firming up their line of performing artists. Apart from the traditional Bengali folk dances and songs, a slew of cultural events are also planned.

Here is a glimpse of the celebrations that are being organised by different organisations:

Bangiya Samaj in Sector 6: The Bangiya Samaj is celebrating Durga Puja in the DDA Grounds of Sector 6. This is going to be one of the biggest celebrations of the sub city in which eminent artists from Bollywood and Kolkata shall perform. The media in-charge and general secretary of Dwarka’s Bangiya Samaj, BK Barua said, “This year our pandal shall be the biggest in the sub city. We shall have a unique gate. It is essentially a replica of the White House Gate. Until now, eminent artists from West Bengal like Lopa Mudra and Sudha Sarkar have confirmed their participation. We also have our in-house artists.”

Dakshinayan Society in Sector 3: This is one of the oldest societies in Dwarka where Durga Puja is always celebrated in the traditional Bengali style. It’s cultural programmes based on folklore and tradition have always been a huge attraction for people across the sub city. Secretary of Dakshinayan Puja Committee, A Palit said, “Every year we have a different theme based pandal. This year our theme is the Lotus Temple. The celebrations shall highlight traditional Bengali culture and folk art and like every other year, we shall give a chance to the community artists. We have also invited artists from West Bengal and Mumbai. Artists like Sarmistha Dutta, Abhishek, Poushali Banerjee are going to be present.”

Aaikotan  in Sector 4: Aaikotan is organising its celebrations at Sector 4. This society is known for its breathtakingly beautiful idols. This year the idol will embody ancient and modern arts and colours. Prominent singers of the popular television show SaReGaMaPa are going to regale the audiences in the cultural events. A famous singer from Bollywood shall also be performing on Saptami.

Deepanwita in Sector 2: Like every year, musical and cultural events are the highlight of the celebrations organised by Deepanwita. Community artists will do majority of the performances. Secretary of Puja Committee, Raj Samal informed, “We have many programmes from our local community artists. Besides that a famous band from Kolkata "Bhoom" shall be performing on Ashtami. Famous singer Saberi Bhattacharya will perform on Navami. Some other artists from the television show SaReGaMaPa are also going to be there.”

Aagomoni in Sector 14: Like every other year, the Bengali community from Sector 13 and 14 shall be organising Durga Puja celebrations at the DDA land in Sector 14. The highlight here will be a plethora of performances by the community artists, children and women.
