Noida Authority lays off 10 more sanitation workers

Today evening, Noida Authority terminated the service of 10 contract sanitation workers. On Wednesday, it had laid off 50 workers.

Officials of Noida Authority claim these workers had been preventing others from carrying out their duties, and encouraging them to join the protests outside the authority office in Sector 6.

They had allegedly stopped working for the last nine days, demanding permanent jobs, health benefits and preference in the affordable housing schemes of the government.

RK Mishra, additional CEO of Noida Authority, told City Spidey, “Stopping work to stage protests has become routine for these workers. Their protests every second day is adversely impacting the sanitation and hygiene of the city.”

He added, “We can’t tolerate such behaviour in the city, so we had to terminate a few of them, who were more aggressive of the lot and disturbed others who wanted to do their jobs.”

RS Yadav, project engineer of Noida Authority, said, “We have terminated the services of 60 workers so far. These are more petulant of the lot.”

The authority had contractually hired 4,200 to 4,600 workers from private agencies for various departments such as sanitation and horticulture.

The protests have turned the city into a sore sight, with garbage lying unattended everywhere.
