Say hi to Gurugram and Nuh

The Haryana government, after Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar's approval, has decided to change the name of Gurgaon to Gurugram, and Mewat to Nuh.

An official spokesperson of the Haryana government said the decision has been taken on the basis of representations received at several forums.

“Haryana is the land of the Bhagwat Gita, with Gurgaon as its seat of learning. In the times of Guru Dronacharya, the princes received their education here. In this context, the people of the area had been demanding that Gurgaon be renamed Gurugram,” he said.

Similarly, Mewat is a geographical and cultural area in northern India. It extends beyond Haryana into the adjoining states of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. The most prominent town in Mewat is Nuh. Here too, the name was changed at the behest of the people.
