The buzz in Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram

Here are City Spidey's top six picks from the National Capital Region (NCR):

Noida

Start-up help during second odd-even phase: As Noida gears up to face the odds during the second phase of the odd-even scheme, to be observed in neighbouring Delhi from April 15-30, many start-ups have reached out to residents with a helping hand. On offer are options such as carpooling and free rides to help commuters get to and from the national capital during the odd-even phase.

Maintain plot, or lose possession: Noida Authority cracked the whip on allottees who have not maintained their plots. Through a public notice, it gave them an ultimatum to start construction on their vacant plots within a stipulated time or face action. In case they fail to do so without a valid reason, their lease deeds will be cancelled and possession taken back.

Saved from blazing inferno: Fifteen employees trapped inside a paper factory in Sector 11 were rescued from a raging blaze. However, goods worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed in the fire that broke out at the Heritage paper mill in G block on Monday afternoon. It took nearly three hours to douse the flames.

Ghaziabad

Burglary in Shalimar Garden: Robbers barged into a house in Shalimar Garden on Tuesday and decamped with jewellery worth lakhs. The criminals used a chemical spray on the wife and daughter of the owner, who is a public relations officer, before ransacking the house. An FIR has been lodged with Sahibabad police station.

Solar lamp scam: After the dustbin scam, GMC seems to have been branded with another taint — embezzlement in the procuring of solar lights. The lamps are to be installed in 100 locations across the city. A councillor has accused the municipal commissioner Abdul Samad of purchasing the solar lights at an inflated price of Rs 42, 217 per piece. The market price of each lamp is Rs 25,000.

Gurugram

More fund for STPs: The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has increased the funds in its budget allocated to instal sewage treatment plants (STPs) in different parts of the city. The measure was taken with a view to prevent polluted water from flowing into Yamuna through the Najafgarh drain. Earlier, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had issued a directive to the board in this regard.
