Metro to reach Ghaziabad and Indirapuram

Ghaziabad residents have reason to rejoice. Prominent areas in the city are all set to have Metro connectivity, with Mohan Nagar planned as the the central hub of the new lines.

Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) cleared the Metro extension project in its meeting on Tuesday. The Metro development is part of the Rs 2,370 crore allotted for the development of the city in the 2016-17 budget.

The authority has fixed a target of December 2017 to complete the Metro project.

Vijay Yadav, GDA vice-president, said, "We have proposed Mohan Nagar to be the Metro hub. In the first phase, Noida sector 62 to Indirapuram and Vaishali to Mohan Nagar will be connected. The second phase will see the line being extended from Indirapuram to Mohan Nagar."

The Metro rail will also connect Ghaziabad to Delhi from the Dilshad Garden side. Mohan Nagar has been proposed as a major station in the 9.41-km metro route from Dilshad Garden to New bus stand in Ghaziabad, that's curretly being constructed.

The officials have suggested DMRC to inaugurate the Dilshad Garden-New bus stand Metro route in phases. A total of 8 stations have been planned on this route: Dilshad Garden, Shaheed nagar, Rajbagh, Shyam park, Mohan Nagar, Arthala, Hindon river and Naya Bus Adda.
