A roof over one’s head is a dream that most of us have. Some are even able to realise that dream. And there’s no feeling sweeter than that of a dream coming true! Well, not always. Not when the stuff the dream is made of is poor in quality.

A three-month-old girl escaped a life-threatening situation with minor injuries on her head when a big part of Plaster of Paris (POP) from the ceiling of the lobby in her flat fell while she was playing on the floor. The incident occurred in flat no. 1903 in Supertech Capetown, Sector 74, Noida, on Saturday.

Although the society seems upscale from the outside, the following picture has a different story to tell. It raises some serious questions about the quality of material used. If the broken piece of POP fell on the toddler, it could have proved fatal.

Jitendra Jha, father of the girl, said, “A similar incident had occurred in the past near the society’s main gate with my nephew but he was unhurt.”

Jitendra Jha also said, “I told the officials of Supertech that the building was in a poor condition and pieces of Plaster of Paris are falling off the building from all places but no one came to do any repair work.” He added that he was even threatened that if he spoke to the media about it, his building would not be repaired.

When contacted by City Spidey, SK Chaudhary, civil vice-president of Capetown Buildings, seemed to brush off the matter when he said, “If  POP from the ceiling had fallen on the girl, she wouldn’t be sleeping now. We use good quality material and will fix the building as soon as possible.”

The part of ceiling that fell may not have caused any grave injury but it did put the spotlight on a grave concern - may be disaster is waiting to happen.
