Donate blood. It keeps you fitter

Noida Entrepreneurs Association organised a blood-donation camp in Sector 6 to help thalassaemia patients, but also to give donors an incentive to come forward.

Residents of various Noida sectors on Wednesday took part in a blood-donation camp organised by the Noida Entrepreneurs Association (NEA) at their Sector 6 office. About 165 people from sectors 19, 21. 25 and 27 took part in the camp.

Vipin Malhan, president of NEA, told City Spidey that cases of thalassaemia in children have grown and those affected needed to undergo blood transfusion every two to three months. "This camp was organised to cater to these children and raise awareness about the importance of blood donation."

Anuradha Pandey, a resident of Sector 19, said that she donated blood on a regular basis to contribute to society.

Dr Rashmi Sinha, in charge of the camp, told City Spidey that apart from helping those in need, blood donation also benefited donors. "Donating blood is one way to reduce the iron content in blood and reduce the risk of heart disease by 90 per cent. Blood donation also helps in weight loss, as each pint [450 ml] of blood donated reduces 650 calories," said Sinha.

Akash Singh, a donor from Sector 21, said, "Many people are scared to donate blood. I see it as a great way to stay fit and save lives at the same time."
