Can residents bank on the police?

FONRWA has written a letter to UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to bring the deteriorating law and order situation in Noida and Greater Noida under control. A copy of the letter was also forwarded to Alok Sinha, Divisional Commissioner, Meerut Division.

The letter drew the CM’s attention to the alarming rise in crime and the need for effective law and order measures in the cities. The most important was the need to enhance the strength of the police force and to add more trained women personnel to it.

The letter referred to the recent incident in which UP Police sub-inspector Akhtar Ali Khan was killed in an encounter in Greater Noida. When Khan was shot, the remaining officers fled the scene, deserting an injured colleague, who eventually bled to death. The letter questioned how residents were expected to put their faith in a department that could not even stand by its own.

Speaking to City Spidey, AN Dhawan, general secretary of FONRWA, asked, "How can the police protect the people if they couldn't even fight for their own colleague? The incident also raises the question of how prepared the police are for such an incident. We have requested the CM to provide necessary training to the police so they can better combat crime in the city.”

The letter also stressed the need for the integration of new technology in the city’s security system. “Delhi Police already has latest technology at its disposal. The Noida Police force is smaller; it’s high time they upgraded their system,” added Dhawan.
