Camaraderie marks Lohri celebration

Lohri, a harvest festival celebrated in north-western parts of India, was celebrated on Saturday in Noida Sector-52 Noida with traditional gaiety. A cultural event was organised at the community centre of the sector by RWA with the help of Punjab Society of Noida to mark the occasion.

Though known as a Punjabi festival, residents of the entire sector, irrespective of their origin, came together to enjoy the festivities and experience the hospitality of their Punjabi brethren. Besides, Punjabis living in other part of Noida too took part in the celebration.

The festivities commenced with the lighting of a holy bonfire around which devotees walked throwing snacks like gazag, popcorn, rewdi and peanuts prepared for the occasion. Later, the prasad (snacks) were shared by all those assembled for the occasion in a spirit of brotherhood.

On the occasion, young and old, children and adults, men and women danced to the tunes of Punjabi folk music played on the DJ in gay abandon till late in the evening. Women from Punjab were accompanied by women from other communities in dancing to dhol beats and singing Lohri songs.

General Secretary of FONRWA A K Dhawan thanked the people of the society in particular and other parts of Noida in general for making the event a grand success.
