Noida

Traffic monitors in the skies: Soon, traffic in Noida will be monitored from above. The Traffic Department has decided to launch drones to ease congestion when the need arises. The trial for the unmanned aerial device was carried out at Apeejay School, Sector 16, on Monday evening. The department has procured two drones at a cost Rs 8 lakh each.

Dog bites bring stray menace to the fore: Residents of Sector 26 were alarmed over stray dog menace on Sunday when a dog went on a rampage biting one after another five people in just one-and-a-half hour. While all the five victims are under treatment at Kailash Hospital, the canine was beaten to death. Following the incident, House of Stray Animals, an NGO, filed a counter-complaint in the Sector 20 police station against the killing.

When Ola cab drivers stormed flyway: There was a lot of commotion on DND Flyway on Monday when NCR Ola cab drivers lined up their cabs, obstructing traffic, approaching Noida from Delhi, for about half an hour. They were protesting against Supreme Court order to take non-CNG commercial taxis off the road. Their act led to long traffic snarls. Following the incident, an FIR was registered against 15 drivers at Noida Sector 20 police station and eight cabs impounded.

Greater Noida

GNIDA ultimatum to erring allottees: Cracking the whip on allottees flouting the norms laid down for residential societies, the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has issued an ultimatum to the property owners: stop all illegal and unauthorised activity within 15 days or face action. The Authority has taken the tough stand in the wake of repeated complaints of unauthorised activity in non-conforming areas in the city. Show-cause notices have been issued to 40 residential property owners in this connection.

Gurgaon

More gas stations to meet CNG demand: Ten more natural gas fuel stations are in the offing for the city. Haryana City Gas (HCG), CNG distributor of the city, has decided to set up these stations in a year’s time to meet the rising demand for CNG in the wake of the SC order banning non-CNG cabs. The new fuel stations will come up at Sector 29, Sector 14, Sector15, Sector 37, Sector 89, Sector 52, Sector 53, Sector 49, Sector 34 and Sector 47.

Diesel autos still on the roads: Supreme Court order against non-CNG cabs in Delhi and NCR has no visible impact on the city. Diesel autos can be seen plying on the city’s roads nonchalantly. As many as 15,000 such vehicles are still operating in Gurgaon. As per the apex court order, all taxis and autos running on diesel should have been off the road or switched to CNG by March 31.

Faridabad

Woman journalist leaps to death: A woman journalist was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Faridabad on Sunday night. Pooja Tiwari, who had quit a national media portal rencetly, was facing cheating and extortion cases. According to local police, she jumped off the fifth floor of an apartment in Sector 56. Her two friends, who were with her at the time of the incident, confirmed that she jumped from the balcony in a fit of rage under the influence of liquor.
