Noida
Cabbies at it again; flyway blocked for one hour: For the second time, cab drivers threw traffic out of gear on the DND Flyway on Tuesday. With 200 drivers protesting against the Supreme Court's ban on petrol and diesel taxis, traffic on the DND Flyway came to a standstill for almost an hour, causing huge traffic snarls.
For more accurate assessment of air quality: To keep residents updated on pollution levels, the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Department has procured two air-quality monitors. The devices can measure the presence of NO2 (nitrogen dioxide) and SO2 (sulphur dioxide), besides collecting data on particulate matter (PM) 10 and 2.5. Sector 37 and the Phase II area are the locations earmarked for the installation of the two machines.
Prompt action by Noida Police: In a swift move, Noida Police removed encroachments from roads in Gaur City on Tuesday. Police action came just two days after residents of newly developed high-rises took up the issue with the senior superintendent of police (SSP).
Ghaziabad
Construction firm fined for negligence: On April 25, two people were injured when a steel scaffolding from a pillar of the under-construction Hindon elevated road came crashing down on GT Road. Now, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has slapped a fine of Rs 5 lakh on the construction company assigned for the elevated road project for ignoring safety norms. The report of a five-member panel on the collapse is awaited.
Suggestions welcome for smart city proposal: In its quest for the smart city tag, the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation has invited suggestions from the general public for a revised proposal for the second list. The civic body has to send the proposal to the Urban Development Ministry by June 30, before the second round of the Centre's smart city mission gets under way.
Gurgaon
DMRC food court may reopen: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has applied for a fresh permission from the Haryana State Pollution Control Board to operate the food court at the Huda City Centre Metro station. In March, the pollution board had served the food court a closure notice after finding pollutants in the treated water above permissible limits. The DMRC has upgraded the two sewage-treatment plants that treat waste water generated by the food court, and hopes for a positive response from the board.
