Girl detained in hostel over nonpayment of fees: Ever heard of a student detained in school for nonpayment of fee due? Parents of a Class VIII student charged Mahamaya Balika Inter College of Sector 44 with the offence. Ashok Kumar, a resident of Mandawali in Delhi, said the management of the inter college refused to release his daughter, Dipali, 12, from the school hostel over non-payment of fees on Saturday even as all other students were leaving the hostel for summer vacations.

History sheeter in local poll fray held: Rahul Tharsana, an alleged sharpshooter of the Anil Dujana gang, has been arrested. He was planning to contest the forthcoming panchayat elections. Rahul (30), who carried a reward of Rs 5,000 on his head, was wanted in 18 criminal cases, including three cases of murder. The UP police special task force (west) arrested him on Dhanauri road near Tharsana village after a brief encounter.

Father of DPS victim welcomes move against ragging: A day after district magistrate directed schools to set up anti-ragging cells, father of one of the two victims of brutal ragging at the hostel of DPS Noida, welcomed the move calling it a step in the right direction. Arjun Singh Rawat, whose son, Yash Pratap Singh, a student of Class XI, who, along with one of his batch mates, was ragged by his seniors, expressed his satisfaction over the police probe into the incident. He also welcomed the NHRC notice to top UP state government officials over the issue.

MCG cracks the whip on 5 sanitation firms: The MCG has issued an ultimatum to five sanitation firms working in new Gurgaon. It told them to pay a due deposit of Rs 5.10 crore by month-end or get blacklisted. The firms are collecting garbage from zone 3 and 4 of MCG area and transporting it to the solid waste treatment plant in Bandhwari. They were allowed to sell the raw material recovered from the garbage and keep the income, but deposit Rs 30 lakh every month with the MCG.

NHAI steps to decongest Delhi-Gurgaon route: National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) chairman Raghav Chandra ordered expanding of the service lanes and entry and exit points as measures to decongest the 33-km stretch between Dhaula Kuan in Delhi and Kherki Daula. He also called for fresh paint on road markings at various points after inspecting the busy stretch on Saturday. Official data show traffic has increased from 114,089 vehicles a day in 2008 to present 324,250 vehicles at Sirhaul border.
