On Friday, Greater Noida experienced four-hour long power outage. Such outages have, in fact, become recurring phenomenon these days. As Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL), the city’s power distributor, is unable to bridge demand-supply gap, relief from the outages is nowhere in sight.
Besides, company officials’ failure in promptly responding to local faults and fixing them is adding to power woes of the citizens. With long power cuts on a daily basis residents are finding it difficult to bear the summer heat.
At 11 am on Friday morning, as electricity tripped residents started frantically dialling NPCL helpline. But the response they got from the other end was one of evasive. Every time they called up, officials were content with passing on the info that there was a fault in the sub-station of Delta Sector.
Thus, the residents were kept on tenterhooks for four hours, till the electricity was, eventually, restored. But the joy of the residents proved short-lived as within a few minutes the supply was disrupted again. The sectors worst affected by the power cuts are: Gamma I, Gamma II, Beta I, Beta II, Alpha, Delta, Zeta and Eta.
Rahul Sharma, a resident of Sector Beta I who approached NCPL officials, told City Spidey that they blamed the agencies involved in Metro project for the fault. They said during construction of the Metro tracks, three cables of 33 KW got damaged.
Though the NPCL assured that the damaged cables would be repaired at the earliest, they are yet to act. Meanwhile, the city continues to reel under prolonged long power cuts.
When confronted by City Spidey over the fiasco, General Manager (Operations), NPCL, Sarnath Ganguly, also put the blame squarely on the agencies assigned with the task of Metro construction.
He informed that repair of the damaged cable is underway and hoped that power supply will soon be restored in the city.
