One person was killed and two others were injured when a giant signboard of DLF Mall of India in Noida fell on them. The incident occurred when a sand storm hit the city followed by light rains on Monday afternoon.

Munna Lal, who was on a motorcycle, died on the spot when the signboard installed at gate number six of the mall came crashing down on him. A portion of the board also fell on an Alto car in which two persons were travelling.

Such was the impact of the crash that the gates of the car had to be cut open to rescue the duo trapped inside. Both the injured have been rushed to a local hospital where they are said to be in critical condition.

A passer-by, Mustakeem Khan, told City Spidey that the board, proclaiming “No entry for vehicles” installed by the Noida Authority, fell on the bike and car. He said the sequence of events was so swift that the victims could not get time to even scurry for cover.

Another eye witness, Arun Kumar, confirmed that the strong winds brought down the signboard within seconds and the victims had no time to escape.

DLF Mall of India is spread around two million square feet in five zones and seven floors. It houses 330 brands, including 100 fashion brands – 27 unisex fashion, over 50 women’s fashion, 21 men’s fashion and 14 kids’ fashion brands.

Apart from this, it boasts of 75 food and beverages points, including 51 cafes and casual dining restaurants and 24 food and beverage kiosks.
