Here are City Spidey's six picks from the National Capital Region (NCR):

Noida/Ghaziabad

For power cuts, blame it on infrastructure: While many parts of Noida witnessed outages of more than three hours, Ghaziabad saw over six hours of power cuts on Sunday and Monday. Prolonged power cuts in peak summer is causing disquiet among residents of the two cities. Many must be thinking it is because of power shortage. But in reality, there is no dearth of power in either city. The blame lies on worn-out transformers, rusting cables and unattended panel boxes. Added to this is the ongoing work on upgrading high-tension power lines.

Noida girl brings laurels to India: A 17-year-old Kathak dancer from Noida bagged a silver medal in the International Philosophy Olympiad (IPO) held recently in Belgium. Drishtii Rawat from Delhi Public School, Noida, along with Lucknow's Tathagat Bhatia, a Class XII student from Seth MR Jaipuria School, was placed at third spot among the participants from 44 countries by the International Federation of Philosophical Societies (FSIP). The 24th IPO was organised by Ghent University, Belgium.

Greater Noida

Quota for farmers’ children in private schools: CEO, Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority, Deepak Agarwal, ordered private schools, whose land has been acquired by the government, to reserve two seats in every class for children of farmers. Besides, the CEO ordered concession to farmers' children in the fees. He announced this after a meeting with principals of several schools and warned of stringent for failure to comply with the guidelines.

Supertech in super mess: Supertech is again in the news for wrong reasons. Upcountry, a proposed 100-acre township of the real estate giant, has been cancelled. The township was to come up on the Yamuna Expressway. Two successive CEOs of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) objected to the project citing a forged letter on the basis of which the builder got its plan sanctioned. While Supertech is facing legal action, its clientele is in a huge mess.

Gurgaon

Huda push to oustees’ rehab: In a big relief to the oustees of Northern Peripheral Road (NPR) and Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), Huda has set June-end deadline for projects undertaken to settle their claims. Around 600 oustees are awaiting allotment of alternative plots. Two projects are underway to rehabilitate them.

Medanta security breached: A man armed with a gun could be able to walk past metal detectors at Medanta and enter the reception area on Monday. He was among three burqa-clad men, who entered the super specialty hospital in the wee hours and brandished the weapon at the hospital's guards. The trio fled after pants and sneakers visible under the burqa blew their cover.
