The new year began on an eco-friendly note for residents of Sector 55. They have taken a collective resolution to avoid plastic bags for shopping.
The RWA members have also persuaded shopkeepers and traders of all the five markets within the sector to follow the initiative. Says RWA President Gajendra Bansal, "They are co-operating with us to achieve a plastic-free zone."
RWA officials have put up banners with eco-friendly messages across the markets to sensitise shoppers on the issue.
They have also stopped allowing vendors and hawkers using polythene bags from entering the sector.
