The naked, sagging overhead electricity cables is a major cause of worry for residents of Mayfield Garden in Sector 51, Gurgaon. The power distribution body, Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN), has done nothing to address the issue, which is a constant threat to residents.
"It is a dangerous situation with electricity cables sagging so low," said Shivani Budhiraja, a resident of D block. "Children are especially vulnerable as there are several such cables throughout the society."
However, this is just one of the many problems Mayfield Garden has.
Despite being developed 27 years ago, the society is yet to have the basic amenities in place. Mayfield Garden was developed by five builders, who had never been able to address the grievances of residents. Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) recently took over the maintenance of the society to do a better job.
"Nothing has changed even after MCG taking over," said Satpal Thakran, RWA president of J Block. "We have been struggling for proper roads, water supply and sewerage. The civic body does not even provide door-to-door garbage collection, resulting in heaps of filth lying around on the streets."

According to residents, a 66kV power substation was planned to be installed in the society. A location was earmarked for the installation but the project has gone into a limbo, as a clearance from DHBVN is pending.
The township is spread over 327 acres, with 10 thousand flats and bungalows. However, only some of the blocks have power connection, while most of the blocks are dependent on generator sets.
