A newly-constructed U-turn in Noida is causing more traffic problems than it is solving.

According to residents of Sector 50, the movement of traffic on the service lane leading to the sector has become unidirectional because of the U-turn on Jain Road near Kothari International School. This causes traffic snarls and quite often people can be seen driving on the wrong side of the road.

Vimal Sharma, president of RWA, said, “The service lane leading to the sector has closed (read rendered useless as movement of traffic now in only one direction). This has become a major inconvenience for us. We have nothing against the U-turn but the Authority should understand that development can’t happen by inconveniencing a large residential population.”

He added, “Besides, the Authority has also closed the crossing at the Sector 39 red light. Residents coming from Sector 47 on Dadri Chalera road now travel over a kilometre extra to enter the sector. ”

The RWA of Sector 50 met Rajesh Prakash, ACEO of Noida Authority, on Saturday and told him about the inconvenience caused to the residents. It demanded that either a U-turn or a cut be built near the Sector 50 market.

GP Saxena, treasurer of the RWA, told City Spidey, “People have started taking shortcuts and can be seen driving on wrong side of the road. Traffic is chaotic during rush hours.” Saxena suggested that if Noida Authority opens the service lane, the problem will be reduced to some extent.

After the meeting, Prakash ordered officials to visit the site and file a report so that the problem can be solved at the earliest.
