Cleaning and maintenance work in Ghaziabad may come to a stand-still as the cleaning staff of Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation have decided to sit for a protest in front of the corporation’s office from Wednesday (June 8).

The contract-based cleaning and maintenance staff of the civic body have demanded a raise of Rs 9,500 in their monthly salary, which is Rs 5,500. The employees said that many of them do not even avail the National Floor Level Minimum Wage (NFLMW) of Rs 160 per day. Their representatives had presented a letter to the mayor and the municipal commissioner but no action has been taken yet.

Speaking to City Spidey, Ashu Verma, the mayor of Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation, said, “The employees are a vital part of the civic body and this will affect the entire city. We will surely take care of their demands and will make some financial arrangements for them."
