Candle march in Noida over inflated power bills

Nearly 200 residents of Amrapali Sapphire in Sector 45, Noida, took out a candle march to protest against alleged overcharging of electricity bills. The march began from the office of SP (city) and ended at the Noida Authority office.

The residents claimed that they were being forced to pay exorbitant power charges, as the builder had tampered with the prepaid meters installed in the buildings. They also alleged that when they tried speaking to the maintenance department regarding the matter, they were told that the deductions were part of the maintenance charges.

Sanjana Sharma, a resident, confirmed to City Spidey that the society’s maintenance department was deducting Rs 1,000 every month from the prepaid meter, and they could provide no justification for it.

Speaking of their ordeal, Manoj Kumar, another resident, said, when they approached the police station of sector 39 to lodge a complaint, the police simply told them off.

When City Spidey spoke of the matter to Gaurav Grover, the assistant SP of Noida, he said a complaint has been received and the matter will be thoroughly investigated. He added, strict action will be taken against the builder if found guilty.
