It goes without saying that medical waste dumped near a residential area is a cause for concern. The waste is potentially infectious and the foul smell it gives out is a nuisance in itself.

Residents of City View Apartment, Sector 35, Noida, have alleged that the medical waste from a nearby private hospital is being dumped adjacent to the boundary walls of the apartment. They even claim that two sweepers of the hospital have been caught on camera (video posted below) dumping the waste in black plastic bags.

Dr JK Sharma, president of RWA, said, “I have seen garbage lifters of the hospital dumping medical waste on the vacant land beside the society’s compound. The wastage that has piled up on the vacant plot is stinking badly.”

Interestingly, the hospital in question, Sumitra Hospital, has admitted that sweepers could have dumped the waste. But, they assured that hospital authorities will not allow sweepers to repeat the mistake.

According to a representative of Sumitra Hospital, there is a set mechanism for garbage collection from the hospital. A vehicle of Noida Authority comes on regular basis to collect the wastage from the hospital. He assured that if the medical waste is still lying around the society, he will send the cleaning staff to remove it.

However, when City Spidey visited the site, it found the medical waste lying there. RK Garg, chief medical officer of Noida, said, “I will send officials to inspect the site and if medical wastage is found, they will complain to the Noida Pollution Control Board and recommend strict action against the erring hospital.”
