DDA in the line of fire at Dwarka

A recent incident of fire at a Herbal Park in Dwarka has led to a heated session among residents over the "casual approach" of DDA.

Nobody was injured, but precious plants were lost in the fire that broke out on a heap of horticulture waste in Sector 6. “This is sheer negligence on the part of  DDA. It has no mechanism to manage horticulture waste," says Raghav Kulshesthra, a morning jogger at the park.

Such waste are not just an eyesore and a breeding ground for diseases, but also a fire hazard. "The heap that caught fire has been lying in the park for more than two years. DDA's staff should have removed it long ago," said Jai Singh Dahiya, a senior citizen who voluntarily looks after the park.

The cause of the fire is still not known, but park regulars suspect the DDA labourers working at the park. "One of them must have carelessly tossed a beedi in the heap that led to the fire," Dahiya says.

Or is it a carefully planned mission to get rid of the waste?

DDA officials couldn't be reached for their side of the story.
