Noida

City witnesses eight-hour blackout: In the worst power breakdown in the ongoing summer, entire city went without power for eight long hours from Saturday midnight to Sunday due to a transmission snag. Residents, who have been experiencing heat and humidity due to frequent outages during the peak summer, could get relief only around 8 am on Sunday when the snag was fixed and the power supply restored. However, the prolonged power cut led to water crisis as supply from pumping stations was disrupted and residents couldn't use pumps to draw water into overhead tanks.

Children’s park for Sec 18 market: Residents of Sector 18 can soon shop with ease while their children play in a nearby park. The Sector 18 market is going to have a fully functional park with all the accessories of play and fun for children like slides and swings. The park is being developed by the Noida Authority.

Greater Noida

U-turn near society demanded: The residents of Paramount Golf Foreste society, Greater Noida, have written to the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC) and Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) demanding a U-turn on the link road to enter their society from Tilapda Chowk. Their contention is that since their society is located on the borders of the 130-meter link road, they have to travel on the wrong side of the road from Sakipur roundabout to enter their area.

Fatal road mishap on e-way: A speeding Maruti Alto overturned on Yamuna Expressway at 11 pm on Saturday killing three persons and injuring four others. The deceased are identified as Dharamveer, 28, Ranveer, 47, and Juginder, 35. The injured, Kapil, 26, Prempal, 30, Jahan, 22 and Vinod, 23, have been admitted to a private hospital. All the seven are residents of Manakpur village in Dankaur.

GreNo boy ranked 34th in JEE entrance test: A 16-year-old Greater Noida boy, Mayank Singhal, has secured the 34th rank in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2016. The result of the entrance examination for admissions to the premier IITs was declared on Sunday. Mayank is a student of St Vivekanand International School in Sikandrabad. He is aspiring to study computer Science at IIT Mumbai.

Gurgaon

Cricket betting racket busted: Four men were arrested on Saturday for allegedly running a gambling racket from a rented apartment. They were betting on the ongoing cricket matches between India versus Zimbabwe cricket series.

Snatchers caught by passers-by: Two persons were arrested for allegedly snatching a mobile phone near Sector 37 on Saturday night. The accused, who were on foot, were caught by passers-by after the mobile owner raised an alarm. The passers-by handed them to the police. Both the accused, Ishwar and Ajit, are from Agra in UP and engaged in menial jobs at a private company.
