GreNo's eight-PAC plans

The chief secretary of Uttar Pradesh, Alok Ranjan, has ordered PAC, or the Provincial Armed Constabulary, to take over security at Metro stations.

GreNo's eight-PAC plans

Do you know who is responsible for security at Metro stations in Delhi and other parts of the NCR? It's the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). But things will be different in Greater Noida.

Instead, it will be the PAC, or the Provincial Armed Constabulary, an armed unit of the Uttar Pradesh police, that will be made responsible. It is known to operate on the orders of the deputy inspector-general and usually assigned to VIP cases or to maintain order during fairs, festivals, athletic events, elections and natural disasters.

The managing director of Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC), Santosh Yadav, said that orders to this effect had come from the chief secretary of Uttar Pradesh, Alok Ranjan. The NMRC has asked for eight PAC units for the job.

Yadav also held a meeting with the Greater Noida SP, Abhishek Yadav, and other officers to discuss the training of the PAC jawans. He added that a control room would soon be set up in Greater Noida to monitor the Metro rails and the Metro stations. "It will be set up either in the Alpha Commercial Belt or near the newly built office of the Greater Noida Authority," he added.

Yadav told City Spidey that the cost of the project was estimated to be Rs 5,500 crore. It is expected to be functional by the end of 2017.
